Botox®
What Is Botox®?
Botox® is a purified protein that is the number one treatment worldwide for reducing wrinkles around the forehead, eyes, and lips. This popular cosmetic is injected into the muscles under facial wrinkles causing relaxation of those muscles and smoothing of the skin.
Indications:
BOTOX® Cosmetic is indicated in adult patients for the temporary improvement in the appearance of:
- Moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity "Frown Lines"
- Moderate to severe lateral canthal lines associated with orbicularis oculi activity "Crow's Feet"
- Moderate to severe forehead lines associated with frontalis activity "Forehead"
Does Botox® Permanently Get Rid of Wrinkles?
No, the effects of Botox® are temporary and usually last three to four months. After this time, you need Botox® retreatment to keep your skin smooth and free of wrinkles. The effects may last a shorter time after the first treatment but then longer with the second and following treatments. Some people notice the effects last longer, possibly up to six months.
TMJ:
BOTOX® injections at specific muscles affiliated with the temporomandibular joint may help relieve muscle tension associated with chronic clenching and grinding, which can contribute to TMJ discomfort and headaches/migraines.
Gummy Smile:
BOTOX® injections at specific muscles contributing to upper lip movement, may help reduce the appearance of a "gummy smile". This is a more conservative approach to achieving facial esthetics pending the initial amount of gums visible.
